New Book “Poor Housing: A Silent Crisis”
A new book launched in Winnipeg October 21st and edited by Josh Brandon and Jim Silver uses Winnipeg as an example to examine the circumstances of low-income people who are forced to live in poor housing. The book argues that the private, for-profit housing market does not and cannot meet the housing needs of low-income Canadians and therefore governments must intervene and provide subsidies. The authors describe a number of creative and successful housing strategies for low-income people in Winnipeg. The book is available at McNally Robinson Booksellers and Fernwood Publishing.
