Public housing’s broken promise

Lorry Mulvaney’s father planted an ash tree when their family moved into Manitoba’s first public housing in 1963.

While 60 years later, much has changed in the area around Gilbert Park in northwest Winnipeg — more development, more units, more people — the tree remains, a reminder to Mulvaney of what the place once meant to him and others who called it home in those early days.
